Students Make a Difference at Little's Lake

On Saturday, October 28, 2017, students from the professional business fraternity Delta Sigma Pi came to Little’s Lake to help with fall improvements. Students from Siena College and the University at Albany split into groups to work on a variety of projects around W.C. Little Memorial Park.
The members chose Little’s Lake as their service project for Make A Difference Day, one of the largest single days of service in the country, held on the fourth Saturday of every October since 1992.
The day started at 10:00 AM, when the sixteen volunteers gathered for a complimentary breakfast and to learn about Little’s Lake and their projects. The volunteers split into smaller groups: one to clean the lean-to, one to put grip strips on the boardwalks, and one to remove an invasive species near the trail entrance.
While the volunteers worked, visitors from Siena College took the boats out and watched from the water. A team of five raked leaves, piled sticks near the lean-to, and cleared a path back to the bridge. Another team of about five swept the boardwalks and laid grip tape for visitors. A team of about six cut, collected, bundled, and removed invasive plants.
After two and a half hours of hard work that made a HUGE difference, our volunteers received Little’s Lake memberships so they can come back and enjoy the results. Thank you, Delta Sigma Pi, for your service. You showed us how #dspserves!
